CLIMATE CHANGE PROBLEM IS BECOMING ONE OF THE MOST CHALLENGING ISSUES FOR THE CENTRAL ASIA REGION, EXPERIENCED BY THE ECOLOGICAL CRISIS CAUSED DUE TO THE CONSEQUENCES OF THE ARAL SEA.
In Halk sozi newspaper issue of the Senate of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Legislative Chamber, dated November 25,2023 there was published the article of Professor Bakhadir MIRZAEV, rector of “Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers” National Research University, titled “The fight against Climate change in the global scale at present time is more obvious in the expansion of green spaces and the consolidation of mutual efforts in this direction”.
As part of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, which will be held in Dubai on December 1-2, 2023, a world summit on climate action will be held, aimed at discussing the possible solutions to these problems.
At this forum by bringing together representatives from almost nearly parts of the world, in particular, the delegation of Uzbekistan, influential international organizations and civil society, issues of combating climate change and mitigating, its consequences, climate strategies and financing the transition to “Green” energy is of great importance will be discussed in consolidating international efforts.
Scientists cite population growth, deforestation and cutting down trees, overusing the land for grazing, soil erosion and climate change as the main causes of desertification on the planet by calling to reduce the impact of these factors. One of the most effective ways for the solution is planting trees. The second is the widespread introduction of renewable, alternative energy sources.
Globally, over the past 20 years, about 4.5 billion people have been affected by major natural disasters caused by climate change, with 1.2 million deaths and an estimated $3 trillion in economic losses.
In his speech at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, the President of our country emphasized about the importance of actively associating the international efforts on environmental issues, particularly, in eliminating the consequences of the Aral Sea drying up. At present time we are observing the certain practical activities regarding these issues.
All initiatives and proposals of the Head of our state correspond to the tasks of stabilizing the environmental situation, defined in the “Development strategy of Uzbekistan 2030”. According to the tasks, specified in the strategy, 444 Green parks will be created within the framework of the Green Space National project.
It is expected that large industrial enterprises will show enthusiasm in this regard. Due to that, 112 large industrial enterprises intend to create a “Green belt” of 30 million seedlings within three years.
Tasks are envisaged to expand the forest area, in particular, increasing the level of forest cover in the Republic to 8.1%, increasing the forest area in the Aral Bay region to 1.9 million hectares. The goal is to create an additional 200 thousand hectares of green zones.
In short, in the modern era, while global climate change and desertification processes are intensifying, especially in our sparsely forested region, mainly in sandy desert areas, the fight against land degradation and the expansion of forest areas is of great importance.
This important factor is also the widespread implementation of innovative projects in the fight against desertification and drought, raising awareness of local population on issues of combating desertification and drought, developing sustainable land use programs, and also requires the effective application in practice.
