We must use water efficiently, concrete irrigation networks, switch to pipeline systems, use cost-effective technologies, introduce scientifically based, modern methods and techniques, digitalization on water resource management.
Rector of “Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers”National Research University, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Bakhodir Suyunovich Mirzaev published in the newspaper “ Xalq so’zi” (January 24, 2024) the article “Every drop is precious: the effective use of this benefit is pressing problem of our time."
- Providing the population with clean drinking water is one of the five tasks to be implemented by 2026 as part of the development strategy of New Uzbekistan.
- According to the UN, 2 billion people around the world do not have access to safe drinking water and 3.6 billion do not have access to safe sanitation.
- According to experts, in the next 40 years, water consumption in the world will increase by about 1% annually and according to forecasts it will continue to grow. By 2030, to provide the population with clean water and wastewater, between $600 billion and $1 trillion will be needed annually for these purposes.
- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on January 4, 2024 got acquainted with the presentation of proposals to improve the efficiency of water use in agriculture, emphasizing that today it is necessary to appreciate and economically use this invaluable gift.
- In recent years, our country has implemented a number of measures for the rational use of water in agriculture. In particular, 472 thousand hectares of land were transferred to drip irrigation, 48 thousand hectares to rain irrigation and other water-saving technologies were introduced to 97 thousand hectares. Laser leveling was carried out on 649 thousand hectares of land. As a result of these measures, 2 billion cubic meters of water were saved in 2023 alone. This is equal to the annual water consumption of Bukhara region.
