Tashmukhammed Niyazovich Kary-Niyazi

     T. N. Kary-Niyazov is an outstanding mathematician, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor, Academician, Honored Scientist of Uzbekistan, Hero of Labor, laureate of the Beruni State Prize. He made a great contribution to the development of mathematics and higher education in Uzbekistan. T. N. Kary-Niyazov was born in 1897 in the city of Khujand. His career began early, in 1916 he graduated from the Russian-native school in the city of Fergana and began working as a teacher in this school. He took an active part in the creation of the Kokan Pedagogical College and headed it in 1920-1925.  He was one of the first Uzbeks to enter the “Physics and Mathematics” Faculty of the Central Asian State University and successfully graduated in 1930. From 1931 to 1933 he worked as the rector of this university. Kary-Niyazov was the first Uzbek, who was awarded the title of professor in 1931, and in 1939 he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences. In the period 1939-1943, Kary-Niyazov led the development of a new Uzbek alphabet based on the Cyrillic alphabet, which was successfully introduced into the social, cultural, educational and public life of Uzbekistan. Since 1946, T.N. Kary-Niyazov worked as the head of the department of higher mathematics at the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers. T.N. Kary-Niyazov is the founder of Uzbek mathematical terminology and mathematical literature for higher and secondary educational institutions, a prominent specialist in the history of science. He published more than three hundred scientific papers, including the monograph "Ulugbek's Astronomical School", which received deep recognition as a universal discovery in the field of science and was awarded the state prize in 1952. In addition, in 1937 the books "Fundamentals of Analytic Geometry" and 3 volumes "The Basic Course of Mathematical Analysis" were published. Under his leadership, 7 doctoral and more than 100 master's theses were successfully defended.

In 1937-1940, T.N. Kary-Niyazov was the chairman of the presidium of the Committee of Sciences under the Council of People's Commissars of Uzbekistan, the chairman of the Uzbek branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences. In 1939-1943 - Deputy Chairman of the Council of People's Commissars of the Uzbek SSR for science, culture and art. In 1943 he was elected an academician and from 1943 to 1947 he was the first president of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan. He was deputy chairman of the presidium of the board of the Society for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments of Uzbekistan, chairman of the Republican Council for People's Universities, editor-in-chief of the Fan va turmush magazine and was a member of a number of scientific public councils and societies. T.N. Kary-Niyazov participated in many international congresses and symposiums, was elected in 1954 a member of the International Astronomical Society, in 1968 at the XII International Congress on the History of Sciences - a member of its General Assembly. He visited such countries of the world as Japan, India, Italy, Bulgaria, Afghanistan.

   T. N. Kary-Niyazov is called the aksakal of the intelligentsia of Uzbekistan. All his conscious life T.N. Kary-Niyazov devoted himself to the service of science and culture, took an active part in social and political life, devoted a lot of strength and energy to the education of young people. Tashmukhammed Niyazovich Kary-Niyazov died on March 17, 1970 in Tashkent at the age of 73. The memory of the outstanding scientist will forever remain in our hearts.
