On November 2, 2022, the Ambassador of the European Union, Ms. Charlotte Adrian, visited National Research University "TIIAME". The event was attended by bachelor and master students and doctoral students as well. Ms. Charlotte Adrian made a presentation on "Climate diplomacy for the development of our planet".In her speech, Ms. Charlotte Adrian noted that “In five days, the 27th session of COP-27 (the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC) will begin in Sharm el-Sheikh, which there will be discussed the need for a joint fight against climate change, joint work of experts and representatives of civil society to find solutions to problems that prevent people from living a calm and peaceful life.”

Traditionally, on the eve of the conference, the European Union stated that raising awareness and knowledge of people around the world about climate change is the need of the time. Everyone must do their part to combat the global impacts of climate change. On the same issues, it was stated that it would be expedient to organize a series of events within the framework of the Climate Diplomacy initiative. “We are witnessing these changes in Uzbekistan. Of course, there is the tragedy of the Aral Sea, which is a direct consequence of the irrational use of water resources, but this situation is aggravated by climate change. I believe that researchers like you, who study irrigation issues have a much better understanding of the topic. Last year, we observed sandstorms in Tashkent that were not there before.”As an example of recommendations, the participants were shown a video called "10 steps to fight climate change", which describes the simplest and easiest actions that can affect the reduction of the carbon footprint in our daily lives. The European Union promotes and implements environmental, climate and energy conservation policies around the world. 30% of the new EU financial support that will be sent to partner countries, including Uzbekistan, will be directed towards achieving climate goals. The Ambassador also spoke about programs and projects funded by the European Union, which are aimed at mitigating the effects of environmental destruction and developing society in a more sustainable, low-carbon and efficient economy. At the end of the meeting, the participants had the opportunity to contact and communicate with the Ambassador of the European Union in Uzbekistan, the coordinators of the Erasmus + program with their questions on climate diplomacy.
